If you have been unfortunate enough to become unwell on holiday as a result of food poisoning as part of a holiday package, then you may be entitled to compensation. As with any claim the amount of compensation you receive will be dependent on the time you have remained unwell and whether you continue to suffer with long term symptoms.
In claims involving food poisoning or other gastric infections it’s important to establish credible evidence. In the first instance seek medical attention so the necessary tests can be taken to determine the cause and appropriate treatment provided. Keep a record of any medical notes and receipts for treatment incurred. Ensure you contact your travel insurer and find out how they can help. It is then crucial that you report your illness to the package hotel and that this is documented in writing, if possible, ask for copies of the paperwork or alternatively write down the name of the person who you made the report to as well as the time.
If you are aware of other guests within the hotel who have fallen ill with similar symptoms, take their details as they could assist you later in the claim process.
In situations where food has been left out in unsanitary conditions or there is evidence of poor health and hygiene take photographs or videos.
