Alex is the head of our Private Client Department and moved here from a regional firm in Oxford. Alex studied law at Reading University and completed the Legal Practice Course and his training in Oxford.
Alex deals with all aspects of tax and estate planning including Wills, Lifetime Trusts, Probate and Powers of Attorney. Alex is also able to assist when an application needs to be made to the Court of Protection for those who have lost the capacity to manage their own affairs. Alex has particular expertise dealing with issues of cross border estate and tax planning. He also advises clients who have committed historical tax frauds, on the process of making these good under contractual disclosure facilities.
Notable instructions include the administration of estates involving the gathering in of substantial assets in Germany, South Africa, Hong Kong, The Channel Islands, Australia and America. This has included making applications in foreign Courts for local grants of representation and to re-seal UK grants. It has also involved the conclusion of income and capital tax affairs in overseas jurisdictions. Alex regularly draws up estate plans for clients with complex business and personal affairs, who often require flexible and long term solutions for wealth management and succession.
Alex is a member of The Society of Estate Practitioners (STEP), having completed its examinations in July 2014.
Outside work Alex enjoys cycling, drumming (when the neighbours are away), and going to the theatre. On a Wednesday evening Alex can be seen dancing with the Oxford City Morris Men.
