I am delighted to report that the Government has now announced the formal scrapping of its proposed probate fee hike, or, as they put it:
"We will withdraw these proposals, and keep the current system while we take a closer look at these court fees as part of our annual wider review". Quite.
As readers of this blog will know, this was the second interation of the proposed fee hike - the first was also scrapped amidst outrage from professional bodies and commentators alike. This article in the Gazette contains a useful summary of the whole fiasco.
Whilst I am naturally loathe to blow my own trumpet, eagle-eyed readers may also have spotted the prescience with which I predicted this welcome U-Turn back in May. It is great to now be sharing the news with you all as this has been a real worry for many of our clients.
