Somatic Symptom Disorder

Somatic Symptom Disorder, formerly known as Somatoform Disorder, which manifest as the physical symptoms that suggest illness or injury.

In people who have been diagnosed with a Somatic Symptom Disorder, the person’s symptoms cannot be explained.  The diagnosis of Somatic Symptom Disorder requires that the person has reoccurring somatic complaints for at least 6 months.  It has been accepted that such symptoms can be caused or exacerbated by an accident.   Somatic Symptom Disorder is difficult to diagnose and treat, but the Court have recognised this and have made substantial awards where an accident has caused or exacerbated the condition.
